During February we are open 9am to 11.45am then 1pm to 4pm every day.
It might seem way too early to talk about gardening yet, as the mid-winter ground is still hard, but sometimes the early bird catches the worm! And experienced gardeners and growers know that a little planning at this time of year pays dividends later on.
At F.Tate & Sons we are already selling a good range of quality seed potatoes, spring bulbs and a fresh stock of seeds. Our top tip: it pays to get your seed potatoes as soon as possible as they do sell out quickly, even in February.
Whilst you’re selecting those for your 2016 crop, take a look at the spring bulbs we now have in stock – again, the early bird gets the best and most plentiful choice. Bulbs are an ideal way to fill any little gaps in your garden or borders, or use in a planter for a welcome burst of concentrated colour and life.
And who doesn’t enjoy browsing through the wonderful seed packets that are now available? There are such exciting possibilities for modern gardeners these days, and new seeds/types on the market each year .. . it cheers the heart to try a new veg variety, tasty useful herbs or a beautiful unusual flower. Many of the ‘heritage’ collections of old strains are proving very popular these days as people rediscover the benefits of growing and eating them.
Decent soil preparation is always a good thing, and whilst the garden is still resting, it’s a good time to dress flower and growing beds with manure (weather permitting) – we can provide everything you need along with good advice for local conditions.
And to keep warm after all that effort, we still have logs and kindling on sale if you’re running low.
